On this USAID assignment, Mr. Bando designed a series of inter-related activities to be implemented in selected industrial clusters at eight sites. The primary focus of this initiative was to promote proactive environmental management within industry as a means of increasing competitiveness and market-share. To finance this initiative, innovative financing sources were identified linking local economic development and environmental concerns with global issues like greenhouse gas emissions; the use of new mechanisms like the proposed Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) were explored.
