Mr. Bando experience spans integrated solid waste management, solid waste policy and planning, and informal recycling of wastes in developing countries. In particular, he has worked in Asia and South America to establish scavenger cooperatives and micro-enterprises, and implemented community-based solid waste management programs. He has advised on the privatization of solid waste services. This work analyzed innovative practices such as public-private partnerships for municipal service provision (solid waste disposal, drinking water, and wastewater treatment) and recycling ventures involving citizens’ groups, NGOs, local authorities and other stakeholders. His teams have assessed the economic benefits-costs of various alternatives and evaluated the potential for project finance. He has conducted Asia-wide training on “lessons learned” on integrated urban development.
